About Kazzum

Kazzum has always aspired towards an innovative approach to producing theatre for children. Led by Artistic Director, Daryl Beeton and Administrative Director Akua Obeng-Frimpong, Kazzum continues to create work that allows its young audience to be part of a captivating and imaginative experience.

Founded in 1989 by Peter Glanville - current Artistic Director of 'The Little Angel Theatre', Islington - Kazzum was created to fill the 'chasm' between 'Theatre in Education' and 'Entertainment'. Our work focuses on three elements - Collaboration, Diversity and Communication - with the aim of promoting the empowerment of the individual to make informed and positive decisions about their lives.

Kazzum is committed to ensuring its work is accessible to the widest possible audience including those who wouldn't ordinarily have the chance to experience the arts. We aim to offer a quality experience to each young person that engages with our work whether as an audience member or participant.

Kazzum is committed to providing, through its work, genuine equality of opportunity for all. Our work draws inspiration from diverse cultural references including stories, genres and art forms, as well as through collaboration with diverse artists and organisations. This approach results in formation of exciting creative teams for Kazzum and for our audience positive representations of the breadth of our society.

A celebration of difference and diversity is at the heart of all of Kazzum's work. We create energetic, poignant and entertaining theatre that explores barriers; physical, cultural or attitudinal. In challenging young audiences Kazzum, develops the boundaries and scope of young people's theatre as a tool of communication.

Kazzum is committed to developing and creating new audiences for its work. Educational and outreach activity is an important part of our programme. We provide a range of workshops that address the themes of our work and contextualise the audience's experience.

Kazzum aims to continue raising its profile and that of young people's theatre, both nationally and internationally by creating opportunities for audiences, participants and artists to share in the company's vision and work.
