Children of War

‘Children of War' workshop uses drama as a tool to explore the themes conflict, child soldiers and forced migration which in turn can be used to support citizenship, and geography units.

There will be a teachers support pack that has been provided by 'Save the Children' in conjunction with their 'Re-Write the Future' campaign. The resource pack provides educators with curriculum relevant, easy to facilitate activities to engage young people on the issues of children and education in conflict zones.

The workshop and teachers pack will take students through a series of discussions and activities, getting deeper into the subject of child soldiers and the wider context of forced migration and refugees.

‘Children of War' workshop will help young people to:

- understand some of the issues that causes refugees to flee their homes and countries of origin
- develop the personal and social skills necessary to respect basic human rights
- contribute to group and exploratory class discussions, and take part in debates
- use their imagination to consider other people's experiences and be able to think about, express and explain views that are not their own
- To understand that soldiers in current wars and conflicts are not just adult, male soldiers, but increasingly include children
- To understand the reasons for children's participation in war, the nature and the consequences of their experiences
- To think critically about these problems and express their feelings appropriately

The workshop will be lead by two experienced drama facilitators, who have worked with school settings are all CRB checked. The workshop will last for 1 and a half hours.

We will work with 1 class at a time (max 30 pupils) and are able to present 3 workshops within the school day.

We will require a large clean space to run the drama workshop and any additional materials will be provided by Kazzum.
