Kazzum was commissioned by Shape to produce a new mobile, street theatre work for young audiences inspired by the London 2012 Olympics.

Paper People is a hybrid of 'walk about' and 'interactive performance' aimed at young people. Newspaper sellers use their stand and a stack of newspapers to bring to life a variety of people and landscapes that emerge from the pages .

Familiar and inspiring, live animations, all appear to be different, yet they began in the same way, from within a simple sheet of paper.  Celebrating the differences and the similarities among us.

Characters and environments emerge from the paper, like live and evolving animations, highlighting that although they are now all different, they all started off the same, within a simple piece of paper.

Performed by disabled artists Paper People creates an opportunity for young people to interact in a creative and entertaining way. Performed to an intimate audience, once the stories have been told the Paper People wheel off their stand to sell their papers, and tell their stories, elsewhere...

This performance provides young people the opportunity to encounter an unconventional theatre language, challenging them to engage with a mainly visual vocabulary which drives forward our narrative.

Paper People creates an opportunity for personal interaction between disabled artists and young people, inspiring not only the young people's interest in the arts, but also inspire them to view disability and diversity in a new light.

‘A wonderfully intimate, funny production. We were all left spell-bound by the magic of the ‘Paper People.'

Kate Larsen, Programme Director, Shape

‘Paper People were a great success. Spicing vaudeville with a dash or origami! The show was entertaining, engaging and accessible to a broad age range. The company were a joy to have around, friendly, flexible and versatile responding to the needs of the festival and the audience.'

Garry Robson, Artistic Director, DaDa Festival
