The Girl Who…

Monika, alone and fearing her past, negotiates the characters filling her new life.

The Girl Who… begins like any other tour of the impressive Spitalfields Market in east London and the atmospheric streets surrounding it. But then we meet Monika, an extraordinary character whose past experiences have changed her life forever. Suddenly we are impelled to help Monika on her physical and emotional quest to answer a basic human question: “What is my true identity?”

Like most questions the answers are not always obvious… we must first find clues, solve puzzles, and try to experience the world through Monika’s eyes and help her claim back her true identity and reclaim her given name of ‘Sen’

Guided by performers and ‘chaperones’ in character, the audience moves from location to location on this theatrical walking tour that looks beyond the familiar. Two different worlds collide as the audience discover secret buildings, explore sensory installations, and meet strange characters as the performance unfolds.

Inspired by Kazzum’s work with young refugees in London, the show is a fast-paced, immersive and interactive performance placing the audience in the driving seat for a 90 minute adventure through the old buildings, streets and markets of east London.

First presented in 2012 in east London, The Girl Who. The  script is now being used as inspiration for our 2015 project ReTold
